Job Purpose

The Revit/Auto CAD Technician will be responsible for generating/modifying technical 2D surface and 3D solid drawings revolving around physical security solutions for our clients. The successful candidate will work closely with the Security Solutions Architects and Technical Designers within the design team transforming client blueprints, design plans and gathered information into computer generated drawings using CAD & Revit software. The Revit/Auto CAD Technician will operate in the Technical team, reporting to the Lead Security Solutions Architect. The principal responsibility of the technical team is to ensure a high quality of technical and commercial input during the bidding process and the smooth transition from design to project delivery.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Drawing layouts, schematics and/or plans for physical security systems around sites.
  • Meeting with engineers, subcontractors, and designers to review blueprints and design drawings.
  • Work with project delivery teams in ensuring red line documentation is updated and issued to as-installed status.
  • Utilise Revit MEP for modelling system architecture.
  • Generate and/or manage BIM models whilst owning production and evolution of our BIM object library to level 2.
  • Reviewing CAD drawings and models with clients, making adjustments where necessary.
  • Following complex instructions and diagrams to create or modify drawings.
  • Take verbal or written direction and implement into sketches and calculations to produce the final work.
  • Produce plans, elevations, technical details and building layouts.
  • Produce CCTV field of view visualisations.
  • Creating surface and solid CAD models according to client specifications.
  • Manage and use coordination, scheduling, programming, file sharing and collaboration platforms.
  • Own and manage company manage document control, drawing register, and customer transmittal.
  • Work collaboratively with the rest of the Design team, Sales, Procurement, and the wider business to identify preferred technology and product sets.
  • On occasion, perform site visits and conduct technical surveys alongside a technical designer to gather preliminary information regarding design requirements.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience


  • Expert knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Experience in and understanding of BIM to level 2.
  • Experience of using software packages: Adobe Acrobat, Visio, Excel, Word to intermediate or advanced level and design tools. e.g. JVSG.
  • A sound knowledge of engineering design principles.
  • A basic understanding of Electronic Security Systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.


  • Able to support our compliance to SFG20 standards.
  • Revit Certified Professional for Architecture Design
  • BCS Certificate in 2D Computer Aided Design (ECDL CAD) Level 2
  • BTEC Certificates and Diplomas in Engineering Levels 2 and 3
  • BTEC National Certificates and Diplomas in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Civil Engineering Level 3.
  • City & Guilds Certificate in CAD Parametric Modelling Levels 1 to 3
  • City & Guilds Certificate in 2D Computer Aided Design Level 2, and Level 3.
  • Have a detailed understanding of the UK security industry. e.g. Products, suppliers, market dynamics and competition.
  • Have a general understanding of Electrical Installations and Construction.
  • UK driving license

Eligibility for Employment in the UK

In accordance with current legislative requirements within the UK, any successful applicant must produce verification of their eligibility to live and work in the UK. Such verification should be taken in advance of the employment start date and the applicant will be unable to start in their role until this has been received by Synectics Security.
